Today’s race meeting has been cancelled

Due to 30mm of rain overnight and further rain expected during the day, the decision has been taken to cancel this evenings race meeting at Ballinrobe Racecourse (Tuesday 5th May).
We anticipate that this meeting will be rescheduled for a later date.

McHale Farm Machinery Open Days

20150327_130051 (1)20150327_132509McHale Farm Machinery hosted Massey Ferguson and Fendt Driving Days last Friday and Saturday, 27th & 28th March at Ballinrobe Racecourse.

There was a full range of Massey Ferguson and Fendt tractors on display in addition to McHale products. The racecourse 20150327_13555720150327_130320provided an ideal test track on our ambulance roadway for the event.

McHale are one of our major sponsors and we are looking forward to the hugely anticipated McHale Raceday on Tuesday May 26th this year.

Ballinrobe Racecourse launched their 2015 season at the racetrack today, with nine race meetings scheduled and total prize-money of over €800,000 on offer. The fixtures will comprise seven national hunt meetings and two

flat meetings including ten feature races, each with prize-money in excess of €20,000.

Ballinrobe’s season runs from May 5th through to September 22nd and over 90% of the races are now sponsored. One of the highlights of the season is the McHale Raceday, with two feature races sponsored by local specialist farm machinery company, McHale. First staged last year, the McHale Mayo National and the McHale Coranna Handicap Hurdle are each worth €30,000, making them the most valuable races ever at Ballinrobe.

One of the most popular fixtures at Ballinrobe is the annual ladies day, which takes place on June 23rd, sponsored by Vaughan Shoes. With shops in Ballinrobe, Claremorris and Castlebar, Vaughan Shoes, one of the leading shoe store chains in the west of Ireland will sponsor all seven races on the day in addition to the ladies day prizes. Judged by Marietta Doran, the winner will receive a cash prize of €1,500 with nine runners-up prizes worth €130.

The Tote Raceday on July 20th will also include a fashion element with a number of live fashion shows throughout the day hosted by Catwalk Model Agency in the run up to the Galway racing festival. There will also be a best hat competition sponsored by Caithriona King Milliner. The competition will be judged by Grainne McMahon, fashion journalist and blogger and the winner will win a hat designed by Caithriona King to the value of €300. 

Another busy day in Ballinrobe’s calendar is the family day on July 21st, which will include a wide range of children’s activities. A GoRacing Kids’ Club day will be held in advance of the meeting with local national schools taking part.

Cheltenham Preview Night

Ballinrobe Racecourse are delighted to announce that a Cheltenham Preview Night will take place on Tuesday 3rd March in Hotel Westport. In association with the Mayo News, Hotel Westport and Paddy Power, our final panel lineup was confirmed over the weekend to include:

  • Tom Lee, racing pundit, he can regularly be seen on Channel 4 Racing & The Morning Line, as well as in Ireland alongside Brian Gleeson on RTE Racing. A self-confessed jump-racing addict, we’re looking forward to having him on board
  • Adrian Heskin, is an exciting up and coming young jockey, who has had Cheltenham success on A New Story and is a retained rider for Barry Connell.
  • Paul Flynn, Longford based trainer, who had success at the Galway hurdle with Moon Dice in 2011.
  • A senior trader from ‘Paddy Towers’ with a wealth of experience in the betting markets will also be in attendance.

All proceeds on the night will go to the Irish Injured Jockeys Fund (CHY21119). Tickets are just €15 and are purchased at the door on the night. All in attendance on the night will receive an admission tickets to any one race meeting at Ballinrobe Racecourse in 2015 and also €5 matched bet voucher from Paddy Power for Cheltenham. 

 

Paddy Power are also donating a free €100 charity bet to every member of the panel which will be help to raise even more money for this worthy cause.

There will also be an auction on the night for a much coveted photograph of the great Hurricane Fly signed by Ruby Walsh.
