Ballinrobe-based company McHale are proud sponsors of the McHale Mayo National and the McHale Coranna Handicap Hurdle. Each race has a prize-fund of €30,000, which makes them Ballinrobe Racecourse’s most valuable races. It marks one of the racing highlights in Ballinrobe Racecourse’s calendar. Known as McHale day, the raceday forms the second part of a two-day national hunt meeting at the end of May.
In 2016, the AP O’Brien trained King Leon won the McHale Mayo National under jockey MP Walsh.
. The McHale Coranna H’Cap Hurdle was won by Shanpallas, trained by C Byrnes and ridden by B J Geraghty.
Established over 30 years ago, McHale will sponsor seven races on the day. The family-run business produces a range of specialist farm machinery focusing on balers and bale wrappers and is a major employer in the Ballinrobe area. Manufacturing takes place at a purpose-built factory in Ballinrobe.
