Niamh Byrne, originally from Dublin but living and working as a Doctor in Galway won Ballinrobe Racecourse’s Best Dressed Lady title at the Co Mayo track on Tuesday evening, 24th June.

Chosen by celebrity judge Marietta Doran, Niamh wore a stunning white Bastyon dress with a black sash, her black hat with a red flower embellishment was her own creation, while her shoes were from Brown Thomas and her handbag was from Zara.

Niamh was a finalist at Ballinrobe’s Ladies Day in 2013 and in the space of 12 months, has managed to lose three stone in weight “through hard work and sweat in the gym and the support of Weight Watchers.”

Celebrity Judge Marietta Doran, TV presenter and stylist said: “I was blown away by the amount of style at Ballinrobe on Tuesday evening.  This is my second time to judge ladies day at Ballinrobe and the ladies of the West keep raising the fashion bar higher and higher. Niamh was one of the first ladies I met on track and her elegant outfit really stood out for me. I also really admire her determination to lose all that weight – she should be very proud of herself.”

Niamh won a €1000 cash prize while the nine runners up won a goody bag worth €130 each. Over 200 women enjoyed a bucks fizz reception as part of the Ladies Day event.

Receiving her prize, Niamh said: “I was so surprised and totally delighted to win Ballinrobe’s Best Dressed Lady competition. I always have a great time when I go racing there and I’d like to thank the racecourse for such a generous prize and a great night.”

John Flannelly, Ballinrobe Racecourse Manager said: “We were overwhelmed by the turnout of ladies on Tuesday evening.  I’d like to congratulate our finalists, our winner Niamh and give special thanks to all the ladies who came racing and made such a great effort. It was a significant race-meeting for us, as we raced on our new track for the first time. We were very happy with the new track and the reaction from all the Jockeys and Trainers was very positive.”
